    Year of the sequel

If it isn't enough that movies these days come with strings of sequels and prequels, it seems as if games are following suit. This year, expect to see the releases of sequels of HUGE franchises - namely Red Alert 3 and Fallout 3. Ahh, those great memories of nuking whole bases and hitting kids in the groin with a sledgehammer - priceless... Starcraft 2 is coming in the pipeline as well, but don't expect it to hit shelves until next year. The sad thing is, my 3+ year old machine is way underpowered to handle the graphics in modern games and probably won't be able to run them until I manage to get a leaner and meaner computer. In the meantime, however, I get to watch tantalising previews of them.

I like the idea of utilising the sea in an RTS as it expands on the naval aspect of previous RA games and RA3 would probably be the first RTS to make naval warfare an integral, if not crucial, part of the gaming experience. A great move in my books since I've always wondered why RTS designers have shied away from having more naval units/structures. Plus, Tesla Coils on water look fully sick!
